My family has a question regarding vanilla extract and whether it is considered halal in our tariqa by Mawlana?
Answer:
Vanilla “extract” in the US is 35% alcohol by definition. This is the same alcohol content as rum. Consumption of alcohol is haram in Islam and it is considered haram in our tariqa by Mawlana. Use vanilla “flavoring,” which is alcohol-free as it typically uses glycerol (which is halal) instead of alcohol.
