Question:
Salam Alaikum
I’d like to firstly thank you profusely for offering such a service, may Allah reward you all for your efforts.
My question is pertaining to fiqh; I am wondering whether one can follow the rules of one of the 4 madhabs but on a particular point follow the rule of another. I understand that one cannot mix Hanafi Salat with Shafi’i Wudhu as those acts are interlinked, however for example would it be permissible to take all Hanafi rules but then take the beard ruling of Malikis, based on personal reasoning and not on mere desires or out of ease? My thinking is that all 4 madhabs are deemed correct, and as long as interlinked acts aren’t mixed up then would it not make sense that it is ok to follow rulings of any of the 4?
JazakumAllah Khair
Answer:
wa `alaykum salam,
Mixing between madhabs is not permissible as Ibn Hajar al-Haytami, Ibn Abidin, and others report scholarly consensus on this matter. In order for it to be permissible one has to be reasonably sure (or to be scholar himself) that his action is valid in that other school.
