Question:
Salaam Alaikum. How far is the husband responsible for his wife’s prayers and wearing hijab? If the wife doesn’t pray, will the husband be questioned in the hereafter as to why he didn’t make her pray? If the wife refused to cover properly, will the husband be responsible on the day of judgement as to why he did make her cover and make her do her salat? Will the husband be punished because of the wife didn’t pray or wear hijab?
Answer:
wa `alaykum salam,
Husband is responsible for his flock, for his wife and children. He is to remind his Muslim wife to pray and observe hijab. If she refuses to pray then it is not permissible for him to have intercourse with her unless she starts to pray. By not praying she is kafir (non-believer). The Prophet (saws) said, “Between a man and kufr there stands his giving up prayer.”
