Question:
Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatulahi wa barakatu
I have two children one two years old and the second 4 months old often my wife needs help looking after them such as cleaning and putting them to bed etc. Is it permissible to miss the congregational prayer?
Answer:
For the one who is excused, the reward will be given if it was a person’s habit and intention to pray in congregation. The Prophet (saws) said: “If a person falls sick or travels, there will be decreed for him a reward like that for what he used to do when he was healthy or not travelling.”
What needs to be stressed here is that it is not the same for men to pray at home and in the local mosque if such is available.
