Question:
If someone forgot to pay zakat one year, when does he pay?
Is it permitted to pay more than what is due as zakat, and if so is it considered sadaqa?
Answer:
1. If one forgot to pay his Zakat then it is a debt on him towards Allah and should pay it right away even if he did not have nisab later.
2. The amount of Zakat each lunar year is 2.5% of one’s capital that reaches nisab. A generous Muslim can pay more and it is regarded as Sadaqah.
