Question:
Assalamu alaykum Shaykh,
I have a query with regards to giving monetary donation/gift to a non Muslim friend of mine. His father recently passed away and other colleague are planning to give small monetary gift/donation for his loss of a family member. I would like to know if it is ok for me as a Muslim to also contribute towards this. Both he and his family are practicing Christians.
Wa `alaykum salam,
It is acceptable to give one’s non-Muslim friends, co-workers, neighbors etc. presents. It is a way of our Prophet Muhammad (saws) to be good to Allah’s creatures for the sake of Creator’s pleasure.
