Question:
The beginning time of Zuhr in the UK is now at around 11:53am.
I read the salah at 11:56 and was told that it’s not permissible to pray salah at Zawal.
Please can you:
1) what is Zawal
2) can salah be prayed at 12pm
3) can salah be prayed at 12am
Answer:
Zawal is the time when the sun is beginning to move from the zenith, which is the point of the sky directly overhead, also known as the solar noon. It is forbidden to pray salat at that time. You can do so five minutes later and onwards. So if the solar noon is 12:10pm you can pray Zuhr from 12:15pm. Salat at 12am would be the voluntary night prayer and can very well be prayed.
