Hair problems

Question:

Assalamualaikum Mawlana Shaykh Hisham, Hajjah Nazihe and all eshaykh staff.
Hajjah, I was born with healthy thick hair, and since 6,7 years they have become lifeless, dull and very thin. What is best to make them dark and thick again? Also, iv got a lot of hair all over me and even my face. I get very insecure over that. Is there anything i can do to reduce it?
Please pray for me that I’m able to achieve both these things.JazakAllah

Answer:

Alaykum as-Salam,

In mawlana Shaykh Nazim’s book Natural Medicine it says: “When washing your hair don’t use other shampoos, only olive-oil soap or laurel soap. After wash rub scalp with olive-oil. For women: when in public try to cover head to avoid evil-eye.” As for reducing body hair it is permissible to shave it, and women may shave facial hair as well.

Dream: Coins

Dream:

Aslamualaikum
These 2 dreams are my father’s. Plz interpret them for him.
1. He was searching through some books. In one book he found 2 gold coins which are shiny.
2. He was sitting with his employer and some other people. The mailman comes and gives a letter. Dad’s employer opens the letter, and in the letter is greencard. The mailman also give money ($100 bills) to my father. (***In reality, we do have an immigration case and are waiting for it to get approved)
This is my dream.
3. Me and my mom are at a Quran teacher’s home. One known lady gives gold bangles to my mom. I also saw one of my aunt carrying a little girl.

Interpretation:

Alaykum as-Salam,
All three dreams point to rizq coming to your father.

Wishing a Merry xmas

Assalamoalaikum sheikh,

Quick question, is it makruh or haram to wish merry christmas? What if its wished by normal muslims to spread ‘love’ and build good community relations? It seems its ok for scholars and community leaders to do it, seems ok as seen by the common word declaration where mufti  wished merry  christmas to pope right.

JazakAllah khair sheikh

Answer:

Alaykum as-Salam,
You said it.

Questioning Sufi Teachings

Question:

I am a generally tolerant person who believes in acknowledging differences of opinion among the Muslims.

However I am having trouble acknowledging some of the teachings of the Tijani Tariqa which some of the brothers I know have fully embraced without reservation.

See the following quotation from one of the tariqa’s shuyukh:

Al-Khalifa al-Akbar Sidi Ali Harazem Berrada (d. 1212/1797) said in Kitab Jawahir al-Ma’ani, “Sidna Shaykh said: I have asked the Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) on the reward of Salat al-Fatih to which he (peace and blessing be upon him) responded, “it is worth six thousand (6000) recitation of the Holy Quran’”.

Now the Salat al-Fatih mentioned here is perfectly fine in its meanings, it being a very nice salawat recitation among the Prophet (saws). However, to put the reward of its recitation above the Qur’an seems incredible, nay shocking.

I do not understand how this can be a point in which “difference of opinion” is respected. What have the scholars of Islam said about such claims, and about the Tijaniya Tariqa in particular?

Also how should this be handled when similar statements get brought up in my presence? I am not trying to be mean to anyone, but how can I stay silent when I see excessive language of this sort?

Best,

Answer:

Alaykum as-Salam wa rahmatullah,

May this find you in the best state.
When Awliya speak of their disclosures (kashf) then one is free to take it or leave it. In the quasi-totality of cases, objections stem from misconstruing and misunderstanding as in this case, since the expression “it is worth six thousand (6000) recitations of the Holy Quran” does not “put the reward of its recitation above the Qur’an” but rather expresses the high merit of its recitation with full belief in its meanings. A basic proof of this is the hadith “Reflection for an hour is better than worship for a year.” One might object that nothing is better than a single obligatory worship, not even a whole lifetime of supererogatory worship; but the hadith shows the importance of reflection in the way of Allah Most High.

Wasiyyah

Question:

Can parents leave a will (wasiyyah) specifically how much every child will get, but contrary to the text of the Holy Qur’an?

Answer:

Al-Musa Lahu or beneficiary of the will/bequeath cannot be an existing heir. This is based on following hadith:

Narrated Abu Hurairah: Allah”s Prophet (pbuh) said: “Allah has
appointed for everyone who has a right what is due to him, and no
bequest must be made to an heir” [Sunnan Abu Dawood]  Sunnan Abu
Dawood, also similar hadith are reported by Ibn Majah, Ahmed and
others.

The amount that the parents can bequeath is maximum of 1/3 of overall
estate. This means that the parents have  a right to decide to give only 1/3 to
someone other than their existing children.

Laser surgery

Question:

Aslamualaikum Hajja may allah make us grow in real love for you!

I wanted to ask I want to get rid of excess facial/body hair. New home lasers have been invented which I’ve learned about now ranging from £100-400 they get rid of hair permanently over time.are they save/ok to use. Unwanted hair on women is a very upsetting problem particularly making you feel less feminine/confident. They are expensive but if safe then worth investing in.

2.What is your advice on eye lazer surgery? I have been wearing glasses since childhood I hate wearing them they are awkward. I’ve always felt aggitated on my nose and ears. I’d love to get rid of them. My husband asked shaykh about this for himself shaykh Nazim said he doesn’t like it. Now I want to know for myself if I could have it done.
jazakallah

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

1. Safe procedures to remove unwanted hair from the body is allowed. It is Sunnah to remove the pubic hair and hair under armpits. Hair in such areas is unwanted and to let them grow for more than 40 days is offensive. The laser hair removal surgery is to be done by the husband for his wife or by the woman herself in case her private parts have to be uncovered.

2. There is nothing wrong with performing eye laser surgery if it is done by an expert.
