Question:

I wanted to ask, is it permissible to abandon Dunya/Worldy, materialistic life for a few years and retreat to an empty quarter only to praise Allah and Sultan’ul Ambiya Sayedina Muhammad (SAW) until one’s heart is void of all but love for Allah, Sayedina Muhammad (SAW) and his Shaykh?
I don’t intended to practice Monasticism or Celibacy. I only wish to uproot the idol from my heart and inshAllah return as an Abd’ullah taking from this world only that which is necessary and Halal.

Wa `alaykum salam,
You don’t need to isolate yourself completely because we are not in that stage. You have to bekhalwati-jalwati, isolate your ego from following the traps of shaytan when dealing in dunya, that is the great struggle. You see Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim al-Haqqani is not isolating himself, never and he I salways with people and doing dawah, and running from here and there. So, there is only i`tikaf in Ramadan and permission for seclusion when the shaykh orders you to do that and you are not responsible otherwise to isolate yourself. Rather, work and help others. Help them to help themselves… that is what is needed.
