Question:
Asalamu alaykum,
My question is as a general… mureeds in any if the thuruuks. How does a mureed attain closeness to his sheikh, other than just muraqba and following what the sheikh says?
And secondly, shaithan will put in vasvassas about the sheikh in a mureeds head. About they are a human like you, etc. How do we attain that mind development unto which leads to deeply loosing oneself in the sheikh?

Wa alaikum Salaam,
One answer is to know that you are loved and respected by the Shaykh through the Love and respect of the Prophet (saws) to his Ummah. Also to know that muraqabah, and murabitah (heart connection) to the Shaykh and following his advice sincerely is a connection and endeavor and that is vast and great and that nearness is not necessarily by physicality, but by spirituality, love and adab (good behavior).
WasWas is addressed by increasing light in the heart through zikr. For example, “Audhu billahi min ash-shaytan ir-rajim” by aiming for its meaning and light in your heart and soul.
