Different tariqah’s

Question:

Asalam aleykoum,
I would like to know whether a husband and a wife can follow two different Tariqa’s. The husband is Tidjani and the wife Naqshbandi. Is there any ‘rule’ about a husband and wife having to follow the same sufi branch?
Thank-you for your wisdom.

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

There is no such rule, rather the rule is “kullun min rasulullahi multamisan” all are taking from the Prophet (s) and as such all contain valid ways of worship and approach to Allah swt, just as in fiqh, the man may be Hanafi and the wife Shafi`i, and Allah knows best.
