My husband and his family believe in a Sufi tariqa and have a Sufi Master to whom they prostate. The justification is killing the nafs and to remember the incident for which Satan got expelled and incurred the wrath of Allah. The story of Yusuf (AS) is also used to justify the prostration. They say, its not prostration of ibadat as only Allah is worthy of worship – they prostate to their Sufi to remember the above mentioned incident and it is a part of their tariqa. Each tariqa have their own acts of ibadat which may not make sense to people outside of that school. Me and my husband don’t talk on this issue and I am scared of disrespecting a friend of Allah. We have kids and I don’t know how to address this issue with them. Keep me and my family in your duas.

Alaykum Salam,
The Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) is worthier of prostration than all Prophets and Awliya yet he explicitly forbade it and made it haram. Kissing the feet is one thing but prostration is pure disobedience, not humbleness and not respect.
