Recording one’s Dreams

Question:

Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem

As-Salaamu ‘Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakaatuh,

Is it recommended to record dreams that you have of the Ambiya(AS) and Awliya(q), especially dreams of the Prophet(SAW)?

… as a means of remembrance and reminder of whatever message came with it, or as a reminder of Allah’s mercy upon you by allowing you to see His Ambiya and Awliya, or would recording these dreams be from the ego and aid in feeding the ego and create pride?

Jazakallah Khayr
May Allah (SWT) reward you

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani often recommends murids to record such dreams, not to build pride, but to remind one’s self of Allah’s Favor on you. These should not generally be shared with anyone, for that is what builds pride. And Allah knows best.
