As for someone in barzakh what is most pleasing to them is Allah’s Speech, reciting Quran and offering it as a gift of salawat upon the Prophet saws his family and companions and the one you want to communicate with. Have faith that the gift of Quran is reaching them. As far as you hearing from someone has passed away this is up to Allah. It is better to grow in certainty that Allah is supporting you and the person you pray for and leave the rest to Allah’s decision.
