Sunnah of the Turban and Walking Stick

Question:

Assalamu’alaikum Asyaadi,

I have read a couple of sources with regards to the turban. As previously mentioned, the sunnah of the turban is to wear it with a qalansuwwa. However, the method, length and such is what I would like to know. Is it true that it is Sunnah to tie the turban while standing? In hadith, it is said that the Prophet S.A.W wore a black turban in Fathu Makkah. However in pictures, we also see His turban in green. Does this mean that green, white and black are the only Sunnah colours for turban?

Secondly, in various sources, it is stated that the sunnah of carrying a walking stick is when a person reaches the age of 40. I am 23, does that mean that I may not do so?

Thank you for your time and please forgive me for errors in my question. Wal ‘afwa minkum

Answer:

Alaykum as-Salam,

You are correct in all of what you ask except that the angels and Companions also reportedly wore other colors such as red and yellow.  Imam al-Suyuti in “Tabyid al-Sahifa” and/or Imam al-Haytami in “al-Khayrat al-Hisan” (I don’t exactly remember which) narrate that Imam Abu Hanifa had seven different-colored turbans, one for each day of the week. People have worn red, yellow, black, and blue around Mawlana so colors are indifferent except that white is the superior one. Standing is ‘adab‘ rather than’sunnah‘. Length is undetermined but Mawlana dislikes over-sized turbans for youngsters or  beardless men.
