Question:
salamalaikum to all our shuyukhs,
We have studied and seen the sunnah of the turban which is twisted around the head with a tail falling behind. The Wahhabis say that covering the head with the cloth with or without a darani on top is a stronger hadith and they do not wear the turban as the sunnah.
Please comment on this. Are both practices accepted?
Answer:
wa `alaykum salam,
It is preferable that the turban be tied in such a way as to allow the tail to hang at the back. Some scholars permit tying the turban without a tail.
Nafi’ (rahmatullahi alaih) says: “I saw Ibn Umar (R) wearing a turban the tail of which hung between the shoulders.”
