Question:
Asalaamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barrakaatu,
Inshallah this e-mail reaches you in the highest states of Iman, Ihsan and Ikhlas.
When Sheikh Nuh was in Sydney he told me the sunnah of wearing ring on left hand & I have read many ahadeeth relating to this etc.
Sheikh Nuh said that Sayiduna Muhammad (SAWS) wore His ring in His last days. Can you please tell me where I can find daleel for this for my own personal reference?

Answer:
`Alaykum Salam,
In the Hanbali Madhhab the Sunna is to wear the ring on the little finger of the left hand as stated in al-Saffarini’s Ghidha’ al-Albab,
مَطْلَبُ : يُسَنُّ جَعْلُ الْخَاتَمِ فِي خِنْصِرِ الْيُسْرَى
However, I do not know this to be the case in the Shafii Madhhab, on the contrary: “For us [Shafiis] the Sunna is to wear the ring on the right”(Haytami, Fatawa Kubra and Sharh al-Shama’il; Nawawi, Rawda, bab al-Libas; al-Bakri, I`anat al-Talibin); “both the right and the left are Sunna, but the right is preferable” (Shirbini, Iqna`; Nawawi, Majmu`).
