Question:
Assalamu alaykum.
I know that I am a direct descendant of Abu Ayub Al Ansari from mother’s side and I have read in hadeeth that Rasool Allah SAW, made a ‘Tie of Fraternity’ with the Ansaris, saying that “they are my family”. Does this mean that I am Syed?
Furthermore, while travelling in an aeroplane many years ago, I saw something from another world (this is before I officially gave Bayyah to Maulana Sheikh Nazim): I saw a man and he referred to me as Syedda.
Lastly, when I was born, I had a full head of hair, like a wig. Your Honourable self said to some other sister that this means that the child with such hair at birth is a “special girl”, but what does this mean? By the way, the veins of my right hand spell the word ‘Allah’ in Arabic.
Jazak Allah bi Khayr.
Answer:
Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani says `alaykum salam
These are good signs indicating honor for which we are thankful. The honor of the Ansar is mentioned in the Qur’an and many hadiths. Love of them is a sign of faith so it is good to mention ‘Ansari’ with your name; just as ‘Sayyid‘ is for descendants of al-Hasan and al-Husayn – Allah be pleased with them and all Sahaba. Forelock is a mark of Islam.
