Question:
Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,
There was a time when I wasn’t practicing Islam and had become involved with the Women’s Liberation Movement. They would disperse information concerning the Morning After Pill to young people, and many (I guess not all) are also pro abortion.
I was attracted to their stances on Equal rights, equal pay, women having a say, etc.
Is it allowed to be a part of this movement here in U.S., or are its views unbefitting?
Jazakallahu Khairan
Answer:
wa `alaykum salam,
Feminism is a doctrine advocating social and political rights for women equal to those of men. There is nothing wrong to lobby for women have the same rights as men in the West, but despite the same rights, women and men are different. They are created different and meant to complement one another.
