Question:
Asalamaliakum
I have read that Prophet PBUH said “What the sea throws up and is left by the tide you may eat, but what dies in the sea and floats you must not eat”
However In as-Suyuti’s Book about rightly guided caliphs it is written as below :
Abu Dawud narrated that Ibn Abbas said “I bear witness that Abu Bakr as-Siddiq said, “Eat the fish which float (on the surface i.e which have died naturally, as it is permitted to eat them).”
Could you please clarify the same.
Answer:
A`udhu billahi min ash-shaytan ir-rajeem
Bismillahi ‘r-Rahmani ‘r-Raheem
wa `alaykum salam,
Fish that dies naturally without an external cause and begins to float on the surface of the water is considered Haram.
