Eid falling on Friday ruling..

Question:

Salamalaikkum

Salafis in Sri Lanka are very strict Eid festival falls on Friday, they do not perform Jumma saying its NOT NEEDED (Also they dont pray Luhar) & following was their reasons.

-Abu Dawood narrated in his sunan (1072) and abdur Razzak in his musannaf (5725) through an authentic chain of narrators from Az-Zubair that he said;” Two eids happened on the same day at the time of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. The Prophet sallalahu alaihi wasallam offered the two rakats of Eid al fitr early in the morning and did not offer any prayer, till the time of the afternoon prayer ‘Asr prayer is due’. Ash Shawkani said in his’Nayl al-Awtar (Vol.3-page 348),.”It suggests that if Friday Prayer is eliminated for any legal excuse; the one who did not offer it does not have to offer the noon Dhuhr prayer.

Is this ruling correct? Please advise us

Answer:

`Alaykum as-Salam,

It is not that “Two eids happened on the same day” but Eid happened on a Jumu`a, and Jumu`a is considered a Eid anyway, hence the expression “two Eids on the same day.” Also, the statement “The Prophet sallalahu `alayhi wa sallam offered the two raka`ats of Eid al-Fitr early in the morning and did not offer any prayer, till the time of the afternoon prayer `Asr prayer is due'” is a lie, since that act was not done in the time of the Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) nor in the time of the Rightly-Guided Caliphs but by Ibn al-Zubayr during his caliphate, Allah be well-pleased with all of them, as narrated in the sources given!

Furthermore, as the hadiths clearly state, the Holy Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) gave the option not to stay on for Jumua; meaning, as Imam al-Shafi`i said, an option to those who came long distances for the Eid prayer as a convenience for them, and permitted them to pray Zhuhr instead. One, residents do not have that excuse; two,
it is an option not a command, so that even travellers could still stay on and pray Jumu`a with the Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) did, since he said: “Whoever likes to pray Jumua let him pray Jumua” (fa-man sha’ an yujammi` falyujammi`) and “As for us we are going to pray it” (wa-inna mujammi`un) so anyone in Sri Lanka who holds the Jumu`a prayer in addition to the Eid prayer acts exactly as the Prophet did; Three, the dispensation is accepted for people who follow the Hanbali madhhab strictly, as it is the fatwa in the Hanbali madhhab (and the mosque imam still has to pray Jumu`a according to Ibn Qudama); otherwise they are toying with their Salat and will see the consequences first thing tomorrow in the grave. We do not make up our fiqh by just picking up the
Sunan and choosing like tourists whatever worship we like.

Finally, we should stop confusing the acts of those people with strictness as it is on the contrary laziness and innovation. As a rule they try to make people pray less, do less dhikr, less raka`ats in tarawih, less Salawat on the Prophet and generally less worship and less
Sunan. Sunni strictness belongs to Ahl al-Sunnah and they should ignore the deviations that pose as religion.
