I’m writing something in aubergine (eggplant) for a magazine and I remember someone saying that Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani said it is a food of Paradise. Can anyone elaborate on this further for my article? Does anyone know where that idea comes from, if its got any Islamic background or even just folklore which you’ve heard from your family too? It would be very helpful.

Anas b. Malik said he noticed the Prophet (s) liked dubba‘ (الدباء) which is eggplant and other legumes such as courgette and pumpkin. Anas said, “I love it because my beloved loved it.”
