Assalamu ‘alaykum. Did Abbas successfully return to Imam al-Hussein (as) with the pouches of water? The Shiites, as far as I know, believe he was martyred on his return back. Also, they call him the flagbearer. What is the Sunni narrative of this event?

According to Tabari in his Tarikh he did return successfully and was killed later, alongside al-Husayn, may Allah be well-pleased with all of them.
