Some say that it is incorrect to say the Messenger salAllahu alayhi wa salim knows how to read and write. They quote Qadi Iyad in Ikmal (6:151) stating that this was only referring to a specific incident. What is correct?

Our teacher Shaykh Nur al-Din `Itr said it is not precluded that the Prophet, upon him blessings and peace, very quickly learnt it by the time he left this dunya.
