Question:
As-salaamu Alaykoem (WRBT)
I heard on a local Islamic radio station that we are accompanied by a Jinn throughout the day. It will only leave our sides when we die. Is this true and of what gender is this Jinn.

wa `alaykum salam,
Allah Most High said:
وَقَيَّضْنَا لَهُمْ قُرَنَاءَ فَزَيَّنُوا لَهُم مَّا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ وَحَقَّ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقَوْلُ فِي أُمَمٍ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّنَ الْجِنِّ وَالْإِنسِ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا خَاسِرِينَ
{And We assigned them comrades (in the world), who made their present and their past fair seeming unto them. And the Word concerning nations of the jinn and humankind who passed away before them hath effect for them. Verily they are the losers} Surat al-Fussilat 41:25
The Holy Prophet (upon him blessings and peace said: “Each and everyone of you has been put in the charge of a companion from among the jinn“.
مَا مِنْكُمْ مِنْ أَحَدٍ إِلا وَقَدْ وُكِّلَ بِهِ قَرِينٌ مِنَ الْجِنِّ
Narrated by Abu Ya`la, al-Bazzar, and at-Tabarani in al-Kabir.
Its gender was not mentioned, and Allah knows best.
