Question:
Is it true that an apostate is not executed for “merely” committing apostasy (as argued here, meaning that the apostate must engage in open (violent?) rebellion and attempt to overthrow the established order before he can be executed?
Answer:
We support Shaykh ‘Ali Gomaa’s (Mufti of Egypt) argument that “the only time the Prophet (S) executed an apostate, was when some other crime was committed in addition to apostasy, while those who were only guilty of apostasy were spared.”
