Question:
assalamu alaikum,
Who is better, uthman or ali? looking at the hadiths and at scholarly consensus, its seems uthman is better. for example:
“In the time of the Prophet we were not recognizing anyone higher than Abu Bakr as-Siddiq, then `Umar, then `Uthman.”
“Then `Uthman was put on one side and My Nation on the other and `Uthman was heavier. Then the scale was raised up.”
Yet Ali is at the origin and fountainhead of almost all of the turuq. and as shaykh kabbani wrote in one of his books, the prophet gave to Ali what he did not give to Uthman. so how do we reconcile these two views? i just love both of them so much so was just wondering.
