Question:
Salam,
I have a question on behalf of a close friend of mine. He is a Muslim man who has fallen in love with a Muslim girl. They are in love and not married. They plan to marry in future, but they have made zina several times before marriage. According to Islamic law, can they marry each other now thugh they have made such bad sin, or they can not marry each other as a punishement? Because I read in Quran : “The fornicator does not marry except a [female] fornicator or polytheist, and none marries her except a fornicator or a polytheist, and that has been made unlawful to the believers.” Or is it just enough for both of them to repent sincerely and then they can marry each other?
Answer:
Wa`alaykumussalam,
You have answered in your last question: “..enough for both of them to repent sincerely and then they can marry each other”.
In addition, they should never talk or even think about their pre-marital sins again. Since you also know about this, you are entrusted to keep silence as well; help conceal their faults and never open this up again with anyone else.
