Problems with being a man

Question:

I am studying in Damaskus and I am working and doing sports but I don’t know how to past the exams for my arabicstudies cause I don’t find time to study. I also find a muslim girl to marry. But I don’t know how to marry if I even don’t find time for my studies now. In a few month I want to start islamic studies and this will be difficulter than arabic studies and that will need more time.

The second problem is that I don’t know how to be a man, cause I don’t know  what I want, I am spoiled, lazy, slowly, have problems with concentration. I disturb people without feeling it. People at my working place are not happy with me cause I don’t work good and fast enough. I did not past the drivers license cause of my concentration problem! What should I do?

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

Since you are in a blessed place and Allah Most high has granted you work, sports and a marriage prospect then just embrace that. Your assessment of your situation and character shows you know that you can – and must – work at it. With gratitude and humbleness it will get easier in sha Allah. To grow and obtain these good attributes spend more time at the Maqam of Grandshaykh Abdullah Daghestani (Allah sanctify his soul), especially for the Khatm, and at other blessed places such as Shaykh Muhyiddin, Mawlana Khalid, Umawi for Fajr and/or Jumu`a, and, on Wednesday afternoons, Idlamiyya mosque with the intention that Allah Most High revive your soul with the breaths of His friends. Give regular sadaqa from your income to the lowly and poor so that perhaps one of the Abdal of Sham will make du`a for you. Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (Allah sanctify his soul) prefers for many people that they should learn a useful craft rather than undertake long studies; and definitely to marry. But if you must study (for visa reasons) then you might consider retaking arabic studies and postponing the Islamic studies as you need a firm language basis.
