Confusion about ahadiths relating to Muslims becoming of Mushrik

Question:

Assalamu3alaikum wa rehmatullahi wa barakatahu,

I know a few ahadiths of Sahih Bukhari & Muslim which say that Muslims will not commit shirk but will get involve in this world. But a salafi showed me a hadith which says “…..and the Last Hour will not come before the tribes of my people attach themselves to the polytheists and tribes of my people worship idols…..”[Abu Dawud, Book 30, Number 4239].

How can the sahih hadiths contradict each other.. Can you explain the correct meaning of Abu Dawud’s hadith???

Answer:

`Alaykum as-Salam,
The return to idol-worship is after the rising of the wind that takes away the souls of all the believers including `Isa b. Maryam upon him peace, as stated explicitly in Sahih Muslim, book of Fitan: “Then Allah shall send a sweet wind; then every one in whom there is a mustard-seed of faith will die; then those in whom there is no goodness will remain;
then they will return to the religion of their forefathers.”
