Question:
Asalam Alaikum,
The grave spot reserved for Prophet Isa ibn Maryam (A.S), in the Rawdah of the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.). Who was it reserved by? The companions or someone else?
Jazak Allahu Khayran
Answer:
Waalaykumussalam warahmatullah,
There is space next to the noble three graves in Medina for a fourth grave which was almost used as a grave by various Companions but, in the end, was left vacant. A report from `Abd Allah b. Salam in al-Tirmidhi states that it is recorded in the Bible that `Isa shall be buried next to the Prophet, upon them blessings and peace. The vacant spot, in light of the report, forms the basis for the Umma’s general belief that that space will be used as a grave by none other than `Isa b. Maryam after his return.
