Why is there a difference of opinion regarding tampons?

Question:

Assalamu alaykum.
Is it wrong for me to use tampons if I follow the Hanafi madhab? I’m unmarried. I have read answers here on eshaykh that it’s both haram and allowed. I feel like pads constrict me, me sleep. My skin gets irritated no matter what I use.

Answer:

As-Salamu ‘Alaikum,

If there is a chance to lose virginity by using tampons then it is forbidden. From this we can conclude that using tampons is not haram and not halal.  It is halal and OK to use tampons for married women.
