Question:
Asalaamu alaikum,
My sincere and loving salaams to all mashaykh especially Sultan Ul Awilya Sheikh Nazim Haqqani.
I am working in a business where we publish and promote other businesses through the form of advertising. Sometimes we deal with people of other faiths and backgrounds which causes us to work on advertising projects that we personally do not engage in or follow. i.e Alcohol, Churches, and sometimes doing work for other Aqidah‘s we do not follow. Should we refuse working on such projects and if so then how can this be done but to remain professional. My concern is that to continue this occasional work will not bring barakah and also whether the income would be considered haram or makruh? The business is family run and all Muslim staff. but the clients are all mixed.
Answer:
wa `alaykum salam,
The best answer to your question is provided in this hadith:
Al-Tirmidhi (1295) narrated that Anas ibn Maalik said, “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) cursed ten with regard to alcohol: the one who squeezes (the grapes etc), the one for whom it is squeezed, the one who drinks it, the one who carries it, the one to whom it is carried, the one who pours it, the one who sells it and consumes its price, the one who buys it and the one for whom it is bought.”
