Mental illness and marriage

Question:

Asalamualaikum,

If I have a history of mental health struggles, is it okay Islamically for me to remain single? I have a history of struggling with bipolar disorder. Although it has improved, I don’t want to possibly disrupt another person’s peace.

Answer:

Waalaykumussalam,

Yes, until you feel that marrying will be possible and beneficial for both you and your spouse.
