Question:
Should we get the coronavirus vaccine?
Answer:
Usama b. Sharik said, “I witnessed the desert Arabs crowding the Messenger of Allah from all directions and asking him, ‘Should we do this? Should we do that?” and they asked him, “Should we medicate ourselves?” He replied, “Yes, servants of Allah, medicate yourselves; for Allah has sent down a cure for every ailment, except old age.” It is narrated in the Musnad and the Sunan of Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi (hasan sahih), and Ibn Majah, and in al-Bukhari’s al-Adab al-Mufrad.
Shaykh Dr. Samer al-Nass was asked in relation to the same question, “Does the one who disobeys the health authorities’ instructions and medical specialists’ recommendations to wear a mask, keep social distancing, and vaccinate as precautions against the coronavirus commit a sin by ignoring such instructions?” He replied: “If one believes in the usefulness of such measures then one commits a sin by ignoring them; and if not, then one does not commit a sin by doing so.”
