Alaykum Salam,
It is unreliable as you need a true and actual witnessing and attendance, not virtual or telecast. Therefore nikah by phone, Skype and similar media is invalid unless it is witnessed and attended in the flesh by the obligatory parties to a valid contract or their lawful representatives, and Allah knows best.
