Question:
Assalamualykum,
I would like to ask whether it is permissible to play professional soccer and whether the income earned is halal. In my heart it seems like I would be wasting peoples time. But then again a lot of people just watch highlights only. This is the main thing which is preventing me from trying to become a professional footballer. Other then that, English football is quite accommodating for Muslim football players’ beliefs as there are quite a few Muslim players. I have not got other professional qualifications, as I failed in university, therefore I am looking into this avenue in order to earn a living.
I follow the Hanafi school of thought.

Strictly speaking football/soccer as a profession is not allowed. Any sport done for money according to the teachings of Islam is not permissible. Sport activities done for recreational purposes are permissible.
