Women Sahaba Working

Question:

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem

As-Salaamu ‘Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,

Are there any records in history that show the women sahaba used to work or have jobs?Especially jobs more associated with men in todays times,eg. business owners, traders and lawyers etc.

Also, after marrying Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘Alaihi wa Sallam, did Sayyiditina Khadija Radiyallahu ‘Anha continue working as a merchant or did she “retire”? Lastly, did the women Sahaba participate in the battles as fighters or just as nurses and helpers?

Jazakallah

Answer:

`Alaykum Salam,

Yes, look into al-Kattani’s Nizam al-Hukuma al-Nabawiyya (al-Taratib al-Idariyya). As for fighting yes, as shown by Nasiba bint Ka`b al-Ansariyya.
