Qira’at Hanafi

Question:

Assalamualaikum
I have a couple of questions about qira’at in hanafi madhab.
1) In Jama’ah sirri salaat, how do we recite fateha and other surahs? Do we have to recite with low voice or moving the lips is enough?
2) Same question for nafl prayer.

Answer:

Wa `akaykum salam,

1. In both jahri as well as sirri congregational salah – according to Hanafi madhab – it is wajib for the follower (Muqtadii) to remain silent.
2. When praying individually – sunnah, witr, nafilah – one’s reciting is NOT to be heard, only lips are to move, no sound should issue.
