Reciting Thana behind the imam – Hanafi

Question:

Assalam Aleykoum,

I’m trying to follow Hanafi fiqh. Here’s my questions :

1) If the imam does not recite the thana and directly starts al-Fatiha, do we recite thana on our own behind him while he is reciting al-Fatiha ?

2) If the prayer is already started and we join it, do we recite the thana after our takbir while the imam is already reciting a sourat ?

Jazakallah Khayran

Answer:

A`udhu billahi min ash-shaytan ir-rajeem
Bismillahi ‘r-Rahmani ‘r-Raheem

1. It is Sunnah to recite Ta’awwudh (A’uudhu…) and Basmala (Bismillahi…) after “Subhanakallaumma…”
2. If the prayer has already started and the Imam is reciting silently, you will recite after takbeer “Subhanakallahumma…” only. You will recite A’uudhu and Bismillah when making up the missed rak’ats.
If the prayer has already started and the Imam is reciting loudly, you will recite “Subhanakallahumma…” when making up the first rak’at
