I hope you and your family are well and healthy.
I wanted to ask Sheikh about the person or group who first claimed and propagated that tarawih is 8 rak’ats and the claim is out there but no face attached to it.

`Alaykum Salam,
8 raka`ats is OK also and that is what many Malikis follow as I did when I prayed in the Kattani house in Damascus, but they were very long raka`ats, with one or two juz‘ covered. Basis is Prophetic practice per the hadith of our Mother `A’isha as stated by al-Suyuti in al-Masabih fi Salat al-Tarawih and Allah knows best.
