Significance of movements during Hadrah?

Question:

May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon his Holy Prophet (saws); and may all the friends of Allah be blessed with infinite wisdoms and rewards.

Dear Shaykh, if you could please enlighten us as to the significance and history of the movements we make during a hadrah, specifically the bowing movements and the raising and lowering of our arms in rhythm to the music.

Also, are we allowed to move in a different manner than what is typical if we feel more comfortable doing so? Please educate us on the blessings or gains we receive from hadrah, and what we should or should not do during one, and anything else that can be shared with us about the practice.

Answer:

See the answer “hadrah
