A great sinner

Question:

Salam Alaykum to Shaykh Hisham & entourage.

I fell to the major sin of drinking recently and I have made taubah on that day itself. I was foolish to have made that mistake and is always seeking forgiveness from Allah. However I was told that the deeds of a sinner will not be accepted for 40 days and I am worried as the fasting month is coming. I would like to know if I have to repay back the days of fasting that may not be accepted (I will still fast in ramadhen) after Ramadhen since Ramadhen is less than 23 days away.

Please doa for me. I am ashamed of myself.

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

Make Tawbah. Whether you pray regularly or not, if you’ve missed prayers in your past, make wudu and pray two raka`ats of tawbah for that. And be optimistic–insha-Allah Allah WILL forgive you!
