Question:
Salam alaykum,
Is there any mention of the biblical Esau, the son of Ibrahim (as), in Islamic tradition? In particular, something regarding him selling his birth right to Yaqub (as) as it says in the Bible? How authentic are those accounts? Thanks a lot.
Answer:
Waalaykumussalam.
Esau in Islamic tradition is known as ʿĪṣ b. Iṣḥāq. His name is also pronounced ʿAys. and ʿĪṣū. He is Ayyūb’s (Job) great-grandfather. I could not find that particular story in Islamic tradition.
