Classical Naqshbandi Spiritual Practices

Question:

Assalamu’alykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatahu,

A Question for Shaykh Hisham:

A Shaykh who is a mureed of Shaykh Nazim told someone that the majority of mureeds are not given the classical Naqshbandi spiritual practices (practices related to the realities of Kaba, salat, recollection of God practices, practices that lead to wilayat sughra, kubra, etc.). Instead they are given general awraad and the spiritual practices are given only to a select few in the tariqa. Is this the case? The majority of the Naqshbandi-Haqqani mureeds I meet appear more like the shahdillis, they dont seem to know about things in the classical Naqshbandi texts.

Answer:

Alaykum Salam,
Time and again Mawlana has addressed this and said that the Tariqa
consists in the Shaykh himself, and whatever he says to do in his own
time; not in what we read in books and labels that soothe our
understanding. We should also remember that Iblis had even more
knowledge than what you mention but what is needed is surrender, and a
broken spirit.
