New Tariqahs

Question:

As-Salamu alaykum wa Rahmatu l-lahi ta’ala wa Barakatuh,

Trust you are well? Please forgive me for troubling. I have one question which some murids here asked me to get clarity on please.

As we know, there are 41 tariqahs, we wanted to know, since we see many other new tariqahs being formed, are they accepted? Also, when a Shaykh from these ‘new’ tariqahs give their awrad to their murids, which they explain they take bits from other tariqah’s, is that also accepted. Then lastly, is there a such a thing as a seal of tariqah’s, meaning that no new tariqah can be formed other than the 41 where newly formed tariqah’s will not be accepted?

Shukran.

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh,

Any ‘new’ tariqah must be a branch from a living existing tariqah. If a tree has no roots it will be fruitless. So verify the lineage and you will know.

As for new tariqats forming, I have not heard of it, and in this time, when as our master Mawlana Shaykh Nazim al-Haqqani has often said, tariqats are coming to “end-of-life” and all will come together in the hands of Sayyidina al-Mahdi (as) it is not really expected any new tariqat should somehow pop up.

Allah knows best.
