Tauba and Baya

Question:

Asalamu alaykum,

Sheikh I’ve read wakias of sheiks in past. If the mureeds did certain haraam things they would have to renew bayah. I wanted to ask I’m very weak due to this day and age fitna does that also apply nowadays?
I’m really stressed about it.
jazakAllah

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

It depends at what level you are speaking. At the level of `azeema we must renew baya` every moment because of the sins we are committing.  As far as what Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim al-Haqqani expects, he has taken full responsibility for his mureeds. That does not mean you are free to do what you like but it means your baya` is not cut. However you must ask forgiveness of Allah through the Prophet (s) in turn through your shaykh, where Allah said:

We sent not an apostle, but to be obeyed, in accordance with the will of Allah. If they had only, when they were unjust to themselves, come unto thee and asked Allah’s forgiveness, and the Messenger had asked forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah indeed Oft-returning, Most Merciful. (Surat an-Nisa, 4:64)
