What actually happens at bay’a?

Question:

Forgive me for my lack of adab respected shaykhs.

What transformations actually take place before and after a person takes baya on his or herself and their life? How is a person effected where perhaps he/she wouldn’t have been had they not taken baya?

Is it correct that if a student (or would be mureed) was to fall under the shaykhs radar or protection (Nazar)…Finally, what is the significance of time in taking the baya as an example if a person takes baya at the age of 90? How is that different to if, the same person had taken baya at the age of 12 or not taken baya at all?

Forgive me for such questions but they are just to clarify certain understandings in my head.

Jazakallahu Khayr may Allah reward you all for the immense goodness you are doing.

Answer:

Verily, Allah will not change the condition of the people, until they change what’s in themselves. {Ar-Ra’d 13:11}
O you who believe! Do your duty to Allah and fear Him. Seek the means of approach (al-Waseelah) to Him, and strive hard in His Cause as much as you can. So that you may be successful. {al-Maa`idah 5:35}

It does not matter whether one is 9 or 90 years old. When you strive to find the means to Allah, He will show you the link, and by that you are protected. In time, and with your striving, worship and guidance of the Shaykh, you will see changes for the better in yourself.
