Circumcision age for boys per Hanafi school

Question:

Dear Respected Scholars Salamualaikum,
In most developed countries as soon as the baby boy is born circumcision is done. When we grew up in our native muslim countries the circumcision was done at a later age (eg at age 6 or 7 years). What is the recommended age for circumcision for boys per Hanafi school of thought? Best Regards

Answer:

Essalamu `Alaikum,

According to Hanafi fiqh no Sunnah should be postponed to a later time without a valid reason. The practice in most developed countries (as soon as the baby boy is born circumcision is done) is more in line with the spirit of Sunnah than in our native Muslim countries when the circumcision is done at a later age (eg. at age 6 or 7 years).
