Sunnah Muaqqida

Question:

Salam Alaykum,

I was told that for Hanafi fiqh if sunnah Muaqqida prayer was not read, it would be considered a “sin” to not read it and the salah would be incomplete/not accepted. Is this information accurate? Please shed some light on this as I am very confused and do not want to jeopardize my prayers. I understand that fard salah is only what we are accountable for.

Answer:

Wa Alaykum Salam,

The salat Muakkadah was done regularly by the Prophet (s) and it carries more weight. The salat non-Muakkadah was not done regularly by the Prophet (s) and if a Muslim doesn’t do it he is not sinful but loses the chance to earn the reward.
